MacFarlane, Paula (Carpenter) of Winthrop passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Ames, IA on October 13,1948 to the late John B. Carpenter and Kathryn (Marxer). She was the beloved wife of 29 years to the late Robert MacFarlane. As we navigate through this time of sorrow, we remember her as an epitome of kindness, a beacon of creativity and a testament to selfless service.
Paula's journey was nothing short of remarkable. After graduating from the Mercy College of Health Sciences in De Moines Iowa, she dedicated her life to the noble profession of nursing, healing not just the body but also the soul of every patient she attended to. Her thoughtfulness shone through her actions, comforting families during their most challenging times. Her dedication to her work in healthcare was paramount, yet Paula managed to find time to hone her creativity. Her love for knitting and creating greeting cards was well-known. She even held classes at her residence, sharing her knowledge, and igniting a spark of creativity in others. As Maya Angelou once said, "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have," Paula lived by this mantra, her creative spirit ever flowing and inspiring.
She is survived by her dear brother John Carpenter and his wife Janice of AZ. Paula was an adored aunt of Jessica Carpenter and her husband David Tyler of TX and cherished great aunt of Cameron Lowery and Stella Tyler. In this time of grief, her memory serves as a reminder of a life lived with purpose, a life filled with love, and a life that touched countless others. Paula was a living testament to the quote by Albert Schweitzer, "The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others."
