Nora Daly passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday September 6, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on February 25, 1935, to the late Michael and Ellen Canavan in Carna Connemara, County Galway, Ireland.
Nora's spirit lives on in her children Nora owens and her husband, Steven, Martin Daly and his wife, Cindy, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Martin Owens, Steven Owens Jr., Kathleen Owens, Martin Daly Jr., Thomas Daly and her cherished great-granddaughter Anayise Robinson. Nora was a dear sister to Barbara Shrader as well as the late Tom Canavan, Joe Canavan, Pat Canavan, Marcus Canavan, Maura Chambers, Delia Casey and Kate Meade.
Nora came to America as a young woman where she was welcomed by caring relatives in South Boston. She soon married and moved to Newton to raise her family for the next thirty years, where her infectious laugh was legendary among the backyard cookouts, in the close knit, Pearl street neighborhood of Newton Corner.
Nora worked for over a decade as a waitress at the Cottage Crest restaurant in Waltham, before beginning her long and dedicated career as a mental health worker, for the state of Massachusetts, from which she retired. In retirement she worked as a school bus monitor as well as a lunch lady in the town of Billerica.
Nora was charismatic, caring and funny and her easy smile earned her many friends throughout her life. Forever devoted to her grandchildren, she was happiest when surrounded by family and her faithful dog Duchess, or simply going out to a nice restaurant for a good meal, along with her "Southern Comfort Manhattan, straight-up, rocks on the side , no fruit!"
