Maria Femia

Femia, Maria (Calautti), of Somerville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on February 6, 1944, in the picturesque town of Grotteria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Rocco Calautti and Caterina (Ferraro) Calautti and the beloved wife of the late Domenico Femia.

Maria lived her life guided by faith, family, love, and generosity. She was strong and resilient, yet warm, caring, and deeply devoted to those she loved. Her faith gave her strength throughout her life and especially after the loss of her husband, Domenico, whose memory she carried with her always.

Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. Maria had a special way of making each of them feel remembered and cared for. She called often just to ask how they were doing and wanted nothing more than to know that everyone was all right. She showed her love in simple, everyday ways—through a phone call, a meal, a laugh, a word of encouragement, or by simply being there.

Maria’s home was always a place of warmth and welcome, often filled with family, friends, laughter, and the aroma of her Italian cooking. She loved people, had an infectious laugh, and a spirited personality that drew others to her. Her humor, warmth, and spunk made her especially loved by the younger members of the family.

She remained deeply connected to her Italian roots and treasured returning to her hometown of Grotteria, where she could revisit the place and memories she held so dear.

She was the devoted mother of Vincenzo Femia of Somerville; Olga Boudrau of Florida; Andrea Hayes and her husband, Tom, of Wakefield; Ornella Centofanti and her husband, John, of Medford; and Daniela Femia of Somerville. She was the dear sister of Joseph Calautti and his wife, Olga, of Lexington; Frank Calautti and his wife, Teresa, of Malden; and Rosa Attacchi and her late husband, Salvatore, of Reading. She was the cherished grandmother of Tommy, Christian, Daniela, Giovanni, Massimo, Jolie, Dominic, and Siena, and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Maria also treasured the friendships she formed through her Jehovah’s Witness congregation and the faith and hope she shared with those around her.

A visitation will be held at Paul Buonfiglio & Sons Funeral Home, 128 Revere Street, Revere, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

Maria will be remembered for her faith, her strength, her laughter, and above all, the love she gave so freely to her family. Her children and grandchildren will carry that love with them always, along with the hope that the separation they feel today is only temporary.
