Maria Argelia Aguilar

May 23, 1942 — September 4, 2025

East Boston

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Maria Argelia Aguilar. She entered her eternal rest on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her two children, Gloribell and Jose, as well as her grandchildren: Eddie, Genesis, Ariana, Darius, Christian, and Alex, along with her great-granddaughter, Novaliz, and her anticipated great-grandson, Christian Lukas. She leaves behind two sisters, Rosa “Chita” & Bertha “Tita”, and reunites with her sister Antoñia, brother Juan, and her parents.

Argelia was born on May 23rd, 1942, in Chalatenango, El Salvador, to Pedrina Aguilar and Francisco “Chico” Serrano. It was here that she grew up surrounded by her brothers and sisters, who were pillars in her life until the very end. The environment in which they grew up was bountiful in love and care, a trait that guided her through all phases of life. She left El Salvador in 1969 for Brooklyn, New York, as a pioneer who would help them accomplish their dreams. She later relocated to Boston in 1979, where she made her home.

Argelia enjoyed many things: soccer, sharing meals, listening to music, having conversations with her sisters, and most of all, gardening. There was not a plant that did not flourish after she touched it. Her joy and profound love for plants were unmatched. The garden that she had built over the years was a direct reflection of her pure soul and intentions. Anything that she nurtured blossomed, as she was a direct ray of sunshine. When you begin to miss her, remember that her light continues to shine over you.

Her fondest memories were those that included her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and her parents. Argelia will be remembered for many things, including being a caregiver. A vital part of all her family’s lives, there was never a shortage of love; it flowed freely. She wanted nothing more than for them to flourish, spread abundant kindness, and create more memories.

There was never a moment in which Argelia did not lead with love. Whether it was cooking someone’s favorite meal, listening to someone’s story, or lending a helping hand to whomever needed it, she was there. The love that she had to offer was unconditional, and it will continue to be through her memory.

We are grateful for all the love, support, and prayers that the family has received during this time. Argelia’s love, laugh, wit, timeless knowledge, and beautiful smile will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace with eternal love and care. We will miss you, Mami.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9th, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buonfiglio Funeral Home in Revere, followed by a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 10th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chelsea. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be private. Any contributions that you would like to make to the family can be sent to Gloribell Mota via Venmo: @GMota.
