Jose Antonio DeJesus, known fondly as Toño, was a loving and loyal man who meant so much to everyone who knew him. Born in Yaurel, Arroyo, Puerto Rico on October 7, 1960, he came from humble beginnings and carried a strong, resilient spirit throughout his life. After the passing of his father, Santos DeJesus, Jose and his brothers came to the United States together in search of better opportunities. They eventually settled in Dorchester, where Jose became a familiar and dependable presence in the community through his work as a janitor at a local hospital.
Jose was a humble man who appreciated the simple things. He loved his family, listening to salsa music and watching Red Sox games. More than anything, Jose cared deeply for his family. Dedicating much of his life to taking care of his mother, Daria Soto, and later his siblings, all of whom were affected by Huntington's Disease. His commitment to family showed just how selfless and caring he was. After being diagnosed with the same hereditary illness, José faced it with strength and determination.
Jose is survived by his cherished daughter, Jennifer DeJesus, and his late daughter, Joanna DeJesus. He was a loving grandfather to Kiki, Neli, Nesi, Lani, Coco, Yaya, and the late Cyndell, and a proud great-grandfather to Sveya. He also leaves behind his dear siblings, Santos DeJesus, Elsa DeJesus, Carmen DeJesus, and Jose M. “Anguel” DeJesus, and was predeceased by his siblings Teofilo DeJesus and Miguel DeJesus. Along with many nieces, nephews, and all those whose lives he touched, Jose will be remembered for his kindness, his strength, and the way he always put family first. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
We invite all who knew Jose to share their memories, stories, and photos. In doing so, you help keep his spirit alive and honor a life centered on love, loyalty, and quiet strength.
