Jose Manuel Andrade of Somerville passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by his family after years of living with Parkinson’s and a brief 7-week battle with cancer.
Born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on December 29, 1949, he was the son of the late João Martinho Andrade and Silvana (DeFreitas). He was the beloved husband of over 50 years to Celeste (Freitas), his sweetheart since they were just 13 years old. After serving three years in the Portuguese Army, Jose and Celeste made their way to the United States in 1980 to build their life together.
He was a devoted father to Nuno Andrade and his wife Stephanie of Lynn, Sara Stournaras and her husband Billy of Lynn, and Christine McSheehy and her husband Ryan of Nahant. He was a proud and loving Avô to Robert Joseph Andrade, Jayce and Jayden Stournaras, and Tyler McSheehy. He leaves behind his beloved brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, along with many friends who became family over the years.
Jose’s love for his grandchildren was endless—they brought him so much joy. He was a loyal fan of his team, Benfica, and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by family, whether it was for dinners, gatherings, or simply sitting back and taking it all in. He was a man of few words, but his presence said everything. And if you ever shared a glass of wine with Jose, you know how special that was. He will be deeply missed, and the memories we share will live on forever.
A visitation will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. A private interment will take place for the immediate family at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider sending a plant or making a donation in Jose’s name to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
We invite those who knew and loved Jose to share memories and photos on his memorial page at www.buonfiglio.com
