Claire Maureen Miller

Claire Maureen (Cahill) Miller, 88, died July 18, 2026, with Judge Judy reruns surely playing somewhere in her honor and a strong cup of black coffee not far from reach.

Born December 20, 1937*, Claire grew up in a close-knit Irish Catholic family that prized conversation, quick wit, and showing up for one another. After graduating from Framingham High School, Claire earned her RN at the Newton-Wellesley School of Nursing, a career she practiced until the birth of her first child.

Over the years, Claire called several towns home, including Wellesley, Weston, Centerville, and Boston, Massachusetts, before eventually settling in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Wherever she lived, she quickly found “her” people: the neighbors who would become family, the baristas who knew her coffee order (black, obviously), and the fellow CourtTV fans who understood that a good cross-examination was appointment viewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Daniel Miller; her parents, Dorris and Edward Cahill; her brothers Gerhard (“Jerry”) and Jack; her crafty and always-positive twin sister, Cleo Bowser; and her beloved niece, Kate Cumming. We like to imagine that reunion now: coffee poured, stories flowing, and at least one spirited debate about whether stockings are indeed always required. 

Claire leaves behind her daughters, Dr. Diane Lee (Will Potter) of Chapel Hill, NC and Laura Anne (Brian Schneider) of Chicago, IL, who inherited her sharp eye and sharper wit. She is also survived by two very special granddaughters, Madeline Grace Potter and Alexandra Capri Schneider, who were adored by their Mimi/Grammy and will carry forward her legacy of curiosity, kindness, and a commitment to live, love and laugh.

Claire’s family will remember her as a sister, mother, grandmother and aunt who showed up—sometimes with practical advice, sometimes with fun projects, and occasionally with commentary worthy of her beloved news commentators. Her life was not defined by grand gestures or headlines, but by the everyday acts of love, loyalty, and laughter that made the people around her feel seen and supported.

We invite her friends and family to celebrate her life on July 24, 2026 at 1 pm at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Bigelow Chapel, 580 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge, MA.
