John Yem

John S. Yem passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Revere, Massachusetts on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. John’s family immigrated to the United States from Cambodia in the early 1980s. They first lived in South Bend, Indiana before resettling in Massachusetts and making Revere home. John is survived by his son, Massachusetts State Trooper Tah Yem; his daughters, Channa Yem and Channarey Yem; his grandsons, Reggie Cross, Roman Cross, and Jason Harris, Jr., and his elder sister, Hat Yem of Long Beach, CA. He had a large extended family in New England and southern California who love John dearly. John was a wonderful uncle and his many nieces and nephews will miss his warm personality. John loved his family and community deeply. Most recently, he spent much of his time at the Rainbow Adult Day Health Center in Lynn where he sang and danced with friends. Rainbow ADHC became John’s second family and his children are grateful for the center’s contributions to his life. John enjoyed attending the Cambodian new year event at the local temple and was often one of the first ones on the dance floor. Friends and strangers alike made space for John and listened to how proud he was of his children. John loved nature and animals. He found solace with long walks on the beach to take in the ocean air. John was an avid fish collector and took great care of the pets he raised with his family. John also had a green thumb and found joy working at a nursery before his retirement. John spent the last few years surrounded by his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. John was a gentle and kind man and he will be missed by many.
